Following the recent split between Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia, Virgin has stepped up its New Zealand promotion. The latest round see Velocity offering double status credits in flights between Australia and New Zealand.
So, if you are planning a trans-Tasman trip, this could sway things Virgin’s way. Double status credit offers can give you a fast track to status, unlocking perks like lounge access and extra baggage allowance. If you already hold status, then it can make it that little bit easier to retain.
Velocity Double Status Credits to New Zealand
To take advantage of the double status credit offer, you’ll need to
- Activate the double status credit offer by 11.59pm 14 December 2018. You’ll need your Velocity Frequent Flyer number to do this
- Book an eligible flight between Australia and New Zealand with Virgin Australia before 14 December 2018.
- Travel on that booking to New Zealand between November 26, 2018 and October 9, 2019
- Wait for your double Status Credits (Velocity state this can take 4 weeks, but they often appear in your account when the eligible flight posts)
The rules around an eligible flight are pretty straightforward. An Eligible Flight is any flight between Australia and New Zealand marketed and operated by Virgin Australia for travel between 26 November 2018 and 9 October 2019 inclusive.
This promotion has some pretty generous time periods. You have almost a full month in which you can make your bookings, and you have 11 months in which you can travel.
