    Velocity launches Platinum Plus

    MarkBy MarkOctober 1, 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Velocity has just become more rewarding for its top members with the launch of a new Platinum Plus tier. This becomes the highest tier of the program you can achieve through flying on Virgin Australia.

The new level was first announced last year as part of a series of changes to the program. It has also been under trial with a select group of members of the last two months.

All that said, Velocity have had a couple of extra benefits up its sleeves. These include improved earning through some partners, and access to the Singapore Airlines Business lounge in Singapore.

    Platinum Plus

Platinum Plus is the new top level tier of the Velocity program. It sits above Platinum, and offers additional benefits over that tier. It does, however, come at a price. Platinum Plus comes with a requirement to earn double the Status Credits over the Platinum level.

To put that in concrete terms, you will need to earn 2,000 Status Credits within a twelve month period. Of those 2,000 Status Credits, 1,500 will need to come from Virgin Australia marketed flights (those with a VA flight number)

Of course, that will come at a hefty price. That could be as much as $24,000. This is based on needing 2,000 Status Credits, and earning of 1 Status Credit for every $12 of spend. Of course, this could change a bit based on the specific fares you book, but you get the idea.

    Benefits of Platinum Plus

So, if it costs $24,000 a year, double what you need for Platinum, what does it get you? Some of the benefits include:

Platinum Plus members can expect a raft of better-than-Platinum benefits including:

    • VIP Priority phone support: access to an exclusive Australian-based VIP Priority phone hotline
    • Complimentary Business Class Upgrades: You’ll get four complimentary business class upgrades for use with economy Flex and economy Choice fares. In comparison, standard Platinum upgrades are only useful from economy Flex.
    • Velocity Platinum gifting: you’ll be able to gift Velocity Platinum membership to a companion. While Platinum members can now do this
    • Fly Later: The opposite of the Fly Ahead program – in this case, you can rebook onto a later flight.
    • Extra Baggage Allowance: You’ll have a baggage allowance of 5 x 32 kg (except on Economy Lite fares)

    Final Words

One year after it was first announced, Platinum Plus has now been launched.
