In December, Velocity took aim a status fast track offer from Qantas by launching its own Discover Gold trial. Due to the restrictions on travel that were in place, Velocity has now extended the trial period to 5 months. This gives you an extra two months in which to earn the 80 Status Credits.
Discover Gold for eligible Qantas Frequent Flyers
Velocity is offering Qantas Gold and Platinum members the opportunity to Discover Gold. This is now a five-month trial of Velocity Gold status, with a challenge to extend it a further year.
In the case of Velocity, it really is an offer to Gold. While Qantas offered selected benefits of Gold, Velocity is giving the trial membership.
Once you have been accepted into the Discover Gold promotion, you will have 5 months in which to earn 80 Status Credits. At the end of the 5 months, Velocity will assess your account, and if you have earned the 80 Status Credits, you will have your trial Gold status extended for a further year.
Note that expressions of interest period has now closed.
Thoughts
Given the travel restrictions that were introduced over the December/January period it is good to see Velocity extend the offer by two months.
This is not really a new style of an offer for Velocity. In the past, they have offered trial memberships to a range of different groups – even FlyBuys members. It is, however, the first time I remember them directly targetting Qantas Frequent Flyer with the offer. (Although they did offer straight-out status matches at one point in time).
While the Qantas offer has, by all accounts, been quite successful, you do have to wonder who would be looking at moving the other way. Still, if you have Qantas status, there may be little harm in giving it a go.
And, if you are already Velocity Gold or Platinum, you could take advantage of a separate extension offer.
