Virgin Australia expands Alitalia Codeshare arrangements

Virgin Australia has announced an expansion of its Alitalia codeshare arrangements. Under the expanded codeshare arrangements, Virgin Australia will be placing its VA flight numbers on Alitalia services between Rome and 11 new Italian destinations. The new codeshares expands on the existing relationship between Alitalia and Virgin Australia.

The new codeshare flights operate on the following sectors:

Rome (FCO) to Bari (BRI) Rome to Naples (NAP)
Rome to Bologna (BLQ) Rome to Palermo (PMO)
Rome to Catania (CTA) Rome to Reggio Calabria (REG)
Rome to Florence (FLR) Rome to Turin (TRN)
Rome to Genoa (GOA) Rome to Venice (VCE)
Rome to Lamezia Terme (SUF)

 

Existing Relationship

These new codeshare routes are in addition to the existing Virgin Australia codeshare Alitalia services operating between Abu Dhabi and Rome Fiumicino, and Abu Dhabi and Milan Malpensa.

As these are VA coded flights, Velocity Frequent Flyer members travelling on these services will earn Velocity Points and Status Credits. In addition. Velocity Platinum and Gold members will enjoy full reciprocity across Alitalia’s network, including lounge access, priority check-in, priority boarding and an increased baggage allowances. An additional baggage allowance will also be extended to Velocity Silver members.

Virgin Australia General Manager Alliances, Phil Squires said: “Our expanded codeshare relationship with Alitalia makes it easier for Australians to do business or visit friends and family in Italy.

“Virgin Australia customers now have access to 13 codeshare destinations across Italy from our Abu Dhabi gateway, providing more opportunities to travel seamlessly, earn Velocity Points and Status Credits, and enjoy lounge access.”
