The current partnership between Virgin Australia and Hawaiian Airlines will be coming to an end on 30 June 2025. This means that from 1 July 2025, Velocity members will no longer earn Points or Status Credits when flying Hawaiian Airlines.
The move comes as Hawaiian Airlines prepares to enter the OneWorld alliance. All the signs are pointing toward that happening in 2026.
What is means
The effect this will have on your travels depends on whether you are travelling on or before 30 June, or after.
Travel on or before 30 June 2025
If you are set to travel prior to 30 June there is no effect on your travel. All benefits such as points earning will continue to apply on eligible flights.
If you fly Hawaiian before 30 June and your points don’t post to your Velocity account, you will have until 31 December to claim them.
Travel on or After 1 July 2025
- Points and Status Credit Earn
- Velocity members will no longer earn Velocity Points or Status Credits when flying on Hawaiian Airlines services.
- Reward Seat bookings on Hawaiian Airlines using Velocity Points:
- The final date to book Rewards Seats will be 30 June 2025 for travel up until 28 February 2026.
- Date changes to travel:
- Changes will be permitted up until 28 February 2026, subject to availability, and all travel must be completed by that date.
Alternatives
If you still want to earn points on trips to Hawaii, you will need to look at Virgin Australia’s other partners. For example, United Airlines and Air Canada both offer one-stop flights from Australia to the Hawaiian Islands. These are not the same as direct flights, but they are still Velocity points-earning flights.
