Hyatt has launched its partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH). Under the partnership World of Hyatt members will be able to earn points and elite credit earning on paid stays. They will also be able to take advantage of a range of on=property benefits, such as an inclusive breakfast.
In addition, members will be offered the ability to use their points for stays.
The partnership between World of Hyatt and SLH officially launches December 6. Having said that, you can make bookings through World of Hyatt now.
To begin with, approximately 10% of the hotels under the SLH banner will be participating – 54 hotels in total. Of the 54 hotels, 49 are in Europe. The remaining five are made up of four in Malaysia and one in China. Additional properties are expected to join the program from now and into 2019.
SLH Partnership Benefits
In order to gain a benefit from your World of Hyatt membership, you must book your SLH stay through a Hyatt channel. You cannot book through SLH or the hotels directly to gain these benefits. Remember, though, that SLH Invited membership provides its own set of benefits.
World of Hyatt Earn
In the World of Hyatt program, members staying eligible nights at an SLH property will be able to:
- earn 5 Base Points per $1 USD spent on eligible room revenue
- receive their standard tier Bonus Points on eligible room revenue spend (10% Discoverist, 20% Explorist, 30% Globalist)
- earn qualifying nights that count toward earning World of Hyatt elite-tier status
On property benefits
There are also a number of on-property benefits. These are:
- Complimentary continental breakfast
- Complimentary Wi-Fi
- Early check-in 12:00pm (based on availability at check-in)
- Late check-out 2:00pm (based on availability at check-in)
- One category room upgrade (based on availability at check-in)
In the case of these on-property benefits, your World of Hyatt status has no bearing on what is offered. The benefits (where available) are offered to all World of Hyatt members.
It is also notable that the only guaranteed benefits are the the continental breakfast and Wi-Fi. Everything else (late check-out, early check-in and the room upgrade) is based on availability.
Redemptions
You will also be able to use your World of Hyatt points to redeem a reward night an an SLH property. While most properties fit into the current award chart, World of Hyatt has created Category 8 redemption rate, requiring 40,000 points per night.
At present, this category will only be used for SLH properties – there are no Hyatt properties moving into the new category at present.

Closer to home, the Malaysian properties have been categorised as follows. While these have lower points requirements, they also offer stays with lower nightly rates when paying cash.

In general, award redemptions don’t seem to offer the same value as the Hyatt hotels do. Perhaps this makes sense, as World Of Hyatt may be paying a higher rate to SLH properties than to their own.
As always, it will pay to look at the cash rate for a night when making your decision on whether to redeem or not.
Thoughts
The ability to earn and burn World of Hyatt points at SLH hotels helps increase the footprint of the Hyatt program. There are now options in areas where previously you were unable to earn points or elite nights in the World of Hyatt program.
Having said that, it is the earn side of the equation that looks most interesting. On the burn side, you may find better value in using your points at Hyatt properties.
