Qantas has added Internet Banking (POLi) as an additional, and alternative fee free, method of payment when paying for flights on qantas.com. POLi is an online payment option that allows customers to securely pay for goods and services using funds directly from their own bank account.
Other airlines, such as Jetstar and Virgin Australia, have provided POLi as a payment mechanism for some time. As a payment mechanism, it has low fees for the airlines, compared to other payment mechansims. As a result, the airlines provide this as a fee free option.
The other fee free option on Qantas are BPay, when made more than 7 days from the flight departure. Within 7 days of departure, Debit Mastercards and Qantas Cash are able to be used to provide a fee free option.
POLi can be used to purchase domestic flights up to 2 hours before departure and international flights up to 4 hours before departure.
How it works
As with the other payment options, the option to pay by POLi is given at the Payment Page. When selecting a POLi payment, you will be redirected from the qantas.com website to the POLi website to perform the payment. From the POLi website, you choose your Australian bank and log in as you would normally to complete the payment.
After you have logged in the Qantas payment details will automatically be entered into the relevant fields. Once payment has been confirmed you will automatically be logged out of your online bank and be redirected back to our qantas.com confirmation page.
Some limitations
Note that in order to use POLi you will need to have a supported Australian Bank Account. It is also only available for paying for flights – paying for other items such as hotels or rental cars is not currently supported.
