Virgin Australia has rolled out an expansion of its app-based baggage tracking system. The expansion follows a successful pilot of the program in May 2023.
The expansion of the system sees guests on almost 70 percent of the carrier’s flights able to track their baggage. If you’re on one of these flights, you’ll be able to monitor the location of your baggage from the time the baggage has been dropped off.
The tracking tool will be available on most domestic routes between major airports. These routes include
- Sydney-Melbourne,
- Brisbane-Sydney,
- Melbourne-Gold Coast,
- Melbourne-Hobart,
- Adelaide-Melbourne,
- Sydney-Sunshine Coast,
At present, flights to and from Perth are excluded. However, Virgin Australia says that the service will soon be available on selected flights departing from Perth.
How it works
The tracking feature will be available in the Virgin Australia app. Once you have checked in, you will be able to receive push notifications advising your baggage location. For example, when your baggage is checked-in, you will receive a notification of this. At the other end of the flight, you will be advised that it is available for collection.
