It’s been a while in the making, but Virgin Australia has finally launched its codeshare partnership with Air New Zealand. Under the partnership, Virgin Australia will place is ‘VA’ code on a range Air New Zealand services between Australia and New Zealand. These fares are now on sale on the Virgin Australia website, with the first flights taking place on 9 December 2024. Following the ACCC’s giving interim approval of the tie-up between Virgin Australia and Qatar airways, Virgin Australia has now applied to the International Air Services Commission (IASC) for approval to operate flights between Australia and Doha. News out this morning that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has granted interim authorisation to partnership between Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways. This follows an application made to the ACCC earlier this year. Under the agreement Virgin Australia will have 28 flights a week between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth to Doha. These flights will use Qatar Airways’ aircraft and crew under a ‘wet lease’ arrangement. These flights will carry a ‘VA’ flight number, although Qatar will codeshare on the flights.
