Virgin Australia returns to long haul flights this week, kicking off new flights to Doha. Qatar Airways will be operating the flights on behalf of Virgin Australia with Sydney-Doha taking off on 12 June. These flights will enable connections to over 170 destinations through Qatar Airways’ network. While Sydney is first out of the blocks, other cities are not far behind. Brisbane flights will commence on 19 June with Perth flights starting one week later. Services between Melbourne and Doha will follow later in December. The sale provides access to more than 80,000 discounted first class, business class and premium economy seats across almost every one of Qantas’ international destinations. Under the sale, customers can pick up discounted seats to Asia, the UK, South Africa, North and South America, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Qantas has announced that it will be shutting down its Jetstar Asia (3K) airline. The closure ends more than two decades of flying for the Singapore bases low cost carrier. The closure will come into effect from 31 July, with the airline gradually winding down operations over the next seven weeks.
