The partnership between IHG One Rewards and Mr & Mrs Smith is coming to an end. It is not a completely unexpected development, as Mr & Mrs Smith has recently been purchased by Hyatt.
Effective immediately, IHG are no longer accepting bookings for Mr & Mrs Smith properties. However, there is some good news for anyone that has an existing confirmed booking. IHG has stated that you will still be able to earn points on your stay.
While not unexpected, it represents a bit of a loss for IHG One Rewards members. In some cases, Mr & Mrs Smith properties were the only option members had if they want to earn IHG One Rewards points.
In the case of Australia, it will see a number of hotels across the country exit the IHG One Rewards program. Of course, these hotels may align themselves with the World of Hyatt program in due course.
You can view the IGH announcement on the Mr & Mrs Smith partner page.
[Previous]
IHG Rewards members can now earn and redeem points at over 400 Mr & Mrs Smith hotels, as part of its partnership with the travel club and boutique hotel specialist.
First announced in 2019, the partnership was due to kick off earlier this year. It would be fair to say that this year has not gone to plan.
New Hotels to IHG
The partnership brings a range of new hotel locations to IHG members. For a start, in Australia, members will be able to earn and redeem points at two new properties – both in Tasmania.
Further afield, the hotel adds 11 countries where there is no current presence from IHG.
Australia
Initially, there are two Australian properties from the Mr & Mrs Smith portfolio available to IHG Rewards members. These are both located in Tasmania – the Piermont Retreat in Swansea, and the Thousand Lakes Lodge in the Central Highlands.
New Countries to IHG
The hotels add 11 countries to the IHG Rewards network. These countries are
- Barbados
- Belize
- Croatia
- Iceland
- Morocco
- Mozambique
- Myanmar
- Saint Kitts and Nevis
- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
- Sri Lanka
- Sweden
IHG Rewards Benefits
For IHG members, these hotels provide additional earning and redemption opportunities for members. On top of that, there are additional benefits available to elite members.
For members seeking to earn points, the earn rates align with the IHG Rewards earn rates. For each US dollar you spend, you will be awarded 10 IHG Rewards Points. In addition, elite members will receive their bonus points as normal.
IHG elite perks
If you are an Ambassador or Royal Ambassador, you will be in line for additional perks. If you hold one of these levels, you will receive room upgrades subject to availability and a welcome gift upon arrival. Specifically, the Welcome Gift is a Mr & Mrs Smith GoldSmith gift. Examples might include bottles of champagne, spa treatments, or picnic lunches.
Thoughts
It’s nice to see some additional hotels for IHG Rewards members. Even better, many are in new locations not previously available to members. It is also nice to see that additional benefits are made available to Ambassador members.
There are certainly some tempting options available, once we are able to start travelling again.
