Qantas have a new promotion underway, offering a 50% bonus on points transferred from selected partner hotel loyalty programs. The transfer bonus applies to transfers made from Hilton HHonors, Hyatt Gold Passport, IHG Rewards and Marriott Rewards. The promotion is running for only a short period, with transfers needing to be made by 29 May.
It appears that the offer is not being made available to members of other hotel loyalty programs. So members of programs such as Le Club AccorHotels seemingly miss out on this particular promotion.
The following table shows the effect of the transfer bonus, based on the minimum transfer that can be made from each program.
Program Points | Normal Points | Bonus Points | |
---|---|---|---|
Hilton HHonors | 10,000 | 1,500 | 750 |
Hyatt Gold Passport | 5,000 | 2,400 | 1,200 |
IHG Rewards | 10,000 | 2,000 | 1,000 |
Marriott Rewards | 10,000 | 1,500 | 750 |
In the case of Hyatt, it is worth noting that when transferring 50,000 or more Hyatt Points to Qantas, Hyatt add an additional 5,000 Qantas Points onto the transfer as bonus points.
There particular promotion has no registration requirement. All that is requires is that the transfer is initiated between May 22 and May 29, 2015. You should note any conditions imposed by the hotel program though, including restrictions such as minimum or maximum point transfers and so on. Also note, that some of them specify some rather lengthy time periods for the points to be posted, so don’t expect the points in any great hurry.
Transfers from partner hotel programs into the Qantas Frequent Flyer program are not normally a particularly good deal in extracting value for your hotel points. You can usually get better value using them for award nights at one of the programs hotels.
Having said that, this promotion makes it a little less worse than would normally be the case. Perhaps if you had some points orphaned in a hotel loyalty account then transferring during the promotion may make sense – especially if you have no other purpose for the points.
