Qantas has launched a surprise 7-day sale offering over one million discounted Business and Economy fares. The fares are for a range of travel periods including
- 29 April to 26 June,
- 22 July to 18 September, and
- 14 October to 10 December.
The sale, which covers 60 destinations on their domestic network, offers prices from $109 one way.
All Qantas fares are full service. They include a checked bag allowance and inflight dining. Free Wi-Fi is available on domestic flights. Qantas Frequent Flyers can also collect Qantas Points and Status Credits on these flights
Classic Plus Rewards
Being a sale fare, Qantas are also touting the ability to use your points for Classic Plus Rewards. These are a type of Reward that ties the points needed to the cash price of the fare. In the case of an Economy seat, Qantas basically allow you to use points at 1 cent apiece. And that is on the fare component, not on the taxes and charges.
So, while Ballina – Sydney is a $109 fare, a Classic Plus Rewards ends up being 5,400 Points + $55.
In Business, it’s a similar story, although in this case Qantas will give you 1.5c for each Point

Final Words
It’s always good to see sale fares, especially given the prices some routes go for. I guess the main question for many is whether the Classic Plus Rewards is a good deal. In many cases, you’d still be better off with a Classic Reward if you can find them. Classic Plus would be a good backup. For me, I’d probably just be paying cash for some of these sale fares.
But, if you’re awash with points, and there are no Classic Rewards, then they could make sense.
