Virgin Australia has announced a new year-round service between Cairns and Tokyo (Haneda). The new daily service kicks off on 28 June 23, and to celebrate Virgin Australia have launched a sale.
In order to operate this service, Virgin Australia will use a new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft,
Flight schedule
Virgin Australia is current;y planning to operate the following schedule:
- Flight VA77 will depart Cairns at 1.15pm local time and arrive at Haneda at 8.00pm local time. This makes for a flight time of 7 hours and 45 minutes.
- VA78 will depart Haneda at 9.45pm local time and arrive in Cairns at 6.15am local time.

To celebrate the announcement, Virgin Australia has launched a ‘Hello Tokyo’ sale with return fares from as low as $699 Economy Lite return. These fares are on sale until midnight 20 December 2022 or until sold out. Travel periods (18 July 2023 – 13 September 2023 & 10 October 2023 – 10 November 2023) and conditions apply.

All-Nippon Partnership
As part of the announcement, Virgin also announced further strengthening of its ties with All Nippon. This includes additional codeshares and reciprocal loyalty benefits. Virgin Australia will have more to say on this during 2023.
