Qantas has announced that it is purchasing the remaining 49 percent of travel business TripADeal. Qantas first acquired a majority stake in the company 2 years ago.
Frequent Flyer integration
The benefit to Qantas Frequent Flyers is that TripADeal offers the ability to earn and use points on their range of tours. In addition, Qantas Holidays resells many of TripADeals packages under their own brand.
Since the integration of TripADeal with Qantas Frequent Flyer, there have been billions of points earned and redeemed. According to Qantas, one member used 3.9 million points to book a 35-day round the world tour.
During July 2024, Qantas members will receive a 30 per cent discount on bookings made with points. If the stars all align and there is a package of interest on offer, this could represent a reasonable use of points.
TripADeal
The core business of TripADeal is curating well priced holidays. In many cases, this will be a fully inclusive package holiday. That will include, airfares, accommodation, ground transport and many meals.
In announcing the deal, Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Grant said
TripADeal has been building on-trend and well-priced holiday packages for over a decade and has delighted millions of holidaymakers in the process. This success has only been turbocharged by the Qantas partnership, and the opportunity for our members to earn and use their points.
With TripADeal bookings growing at 70 per cent over the last year, and more opportunities to strengthen the offering and realise further synergies, this deal is great news for our customers and the Loyalty business more broadly.
