Qantas Travel Money to become Qantas Pay

    MarkBy MarkApril 15, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

Qantas has announced that it is changing the name of Qantas Travel Money to Qantas Pay. The change is set to come into effect on 21 May 2024.

At the same time, Qantas will stop issuing the card in conjunction with your Qantas Frequent Flyer card. As a result, the Qantas Pay card will be issued as a separate card.

While the change is coming into effect on 21 May 2024 you might not notice any immediate change. The current cards attached to your Qantas Frequent Flyer card will continue to work. You will not need to make any changes until your current card expires.

It’s not entirely clear what will happen at the changeover time. Qantas is juts saying they will contact customers prior to the expiry date of the card. At the very least, you will now have two separate cardsĀ  – a Qantas Frequent Flyer card and a Qantas Pay card.

It is worth noting that this is basically just a name change for the product. The ability to earn Qantas Points while using the card is not changing.

    Final Words

This isn’t the first time Qantas has changed the name of the product. It started out life as Qantas Cash converting to Qantas Travel Money in 2018. At that time, there were a range of changes to points earning. Fortunately, the latest name change doesn’t come with changes to points earning rates.

What this change does do, however, is move the Qantas Pay card to a standalone product. That is, it will no longer have a direct tie to the Qantas Frequent Flyer card. Perhaps Qantas see some potential for growth here. Having said that, the travel card market is crowded, with options from Travelex, Australia Post, the big banks and others.
