Starwood and Marriott run similar Q1 2017 Promotions

    MarkBy MarkDecember 18, 2016No Comments3 Mins Read

It was inevitable with the merger of Marriott and Starwood that they would start running similar offers. They have in the last year merged at a corporate level, and offered status matches to each others customers. In a further sign of co-operation between the various loyalty programs, members of the Starwood, Marriott and Ritz-Carlton loyalty programs are being offered similar promotions.

The three concurrent promotions are almost identical. The promotions offer members double points on the first three stays during the promotion period. While being similiar, they are three separate promotions. You will need to register for each of the promotion you wish to particpate in.

In additon to the basic offer, SPG and Marriott are offering a separate cusomised offer. This offers members additional bonus points following the first three stays in the promotion period.

The promotions are applicable to stays between January 16, 2016 and April 15, 2017. Registration needs to be made by March 15, and links to the promotions are here.

    Starwood DoubleTake

The Starwood version of the promotion is going by the name of DoubleTake. Following the the double points offer, there is an additional targetted offer for stays after the first three. The following options have been reported:

    • Starting on your fourth stay, you can earn up to 15,000 bonus Starpoints®:
Achieve 20 nights and you’ll earn 10,000 Starpoints.
After 20 nights earn 500 Starpoints for each additional night, up to 5,000 Starpoints
    • Starting on your fourth stay, you can earn up to 10,000 bonus Starpoints®:
Achieve 10 nights and you’ll earn 5,000 Starpoints.
After 10 nights earn 500 Starpoints for each additional night, up to 5,000 Starpoints.

    Marriott Megabonus

Marriott is retaining its Magabonus name for its version of the promotion. Again, there is the possibility of an additional bonus offer that follows the first three nights. Some of the offers include:

    • Earn double points on your first three eligible stays
Then, earn 30,000 bonus points when you stay 20 additional nights
Plus, earn 1,500 bonus points for each night after that — up to 15,000 bonus points (45,000 total bonus points)
    • Earn double points on your first three eligible stays
Then, earn 15,000 bonus points when you stay 10 additional nights
Plus, earn 1,500 bonus points for each night after that — up to 15,000 bonus points (30,000 total bonus points)

    Ritz-Carlton Rewarding Adventures

It is not really clear to me why there is a separate Ritz-Carlton program. Marriott choose to run a separate program, and the Ritz Carlton version of the promotion may be found here. While existing members need to enrol, Ritz-Carlton will automatically enrol new members into the promotion.

I have not seen any information on whether there are additional personalised offers for the Ritz-Carlton version of the promotion.

Running almost identical promotions is likely to be a sign of things to come with Starwood, Marriott and Ritz-Carlton.
