What Qantas Customers watched at 38,000 feet in 2023

    MarkBy MarkDecember 20, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

As the year draws to a close, we begin to see companies release statistics on the year that was. In many cases, they tell us how many points we earned, how many we spent, and so on.

There are also some interesting statistics on what travellers did overall. Recognising the importance of in-flight entertainment, Qantas has just revealed some statistics on what we have been watching in the skies.

    Entertainment

Perhaps not surprisingly, the Box office hit Barbie, starring Australian actress Margot Robbie, was the most-watched movie of 2023. For the kids, it was Bluey that took out the award for the most watched.

The US hit The White Lotus which was the number one TV show. All up, Qantas customers spent a collective 300,000 hours watching the second season this year.

Australian shows were also popular with Five Bedrooms being the most-watched comedy, The Australian Wars the most-watched documentary, and Couples Therapy Australia the most popular reality show.

Other details of customers entertainment habits include:

    • Around 80 million hours were spent using the airline’s inflight entertainment, up from 60 million last year.
    • Qantas fast, free WiFi continues to grow in popularity, with usage up 10 percent on the previous year.
    • Meditation continues to be a popular choice to help travellers unwind, with Nature Spirit by Jens Buchert the most listened-to audio album this year.
    • Whitney Houston was the most listened-to pop artist, following huge interest in the biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody, which is also available
    • Australian author Liane Moriarty’s Apples Never Fall was the most popular audiobook.

    Summary

Summary of Qantas customers’ top picks:

Top movies: Top TV shows: Top kids shows:
    Barbie The White Lotus Bluey
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Succession Paw Patrol
Ticket To Paradise House of the Dragon Kamp Koral

    Snacking

While we watched, we snacked. Over 2023, Qantas customers made their way through

    • Almost 4 million bottles of wine
    • 1.6 million cookies
    • 1.8 million chocolate bars
    • 1.1 million ice-creams

    Coming up

As millions of Australians head off on holidays over the Christmas break, there is plenty of new entertainment to watch and listen to onboard, ranging from the action-packed battles of John Wick – Chapter 4 to family favourites The Super Mario Bros and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The hit new Paramount+ TV show NCIS: Sydney has also been added to the entertainment lineup, which was filmed at picturesque locations across Sydney, including the Rocks and Bondi Beach.
