    American Express Velocity Credit Cards

    American Express have launched a refreshed version of the American Express Velocity Credit Cards. The two new refreshed cards come with a slightly modified set of benefits compared to the previous cards.

    The revamp see two new Velocity cards in the American Express stable. The top card is the American Express Velocity Platinum card that comes with an annual fee of $440.

    The other card is the American Express Velocity Escape Plus card that comes with an annual fee of $95. For this you get lower points earning, and a different range of benefits.

    That said, the two cards both come with complimentary travel insurance. Otherwise, the main benefits of the two cards are outlined in the following sections.

    American Express Velocity Platinum Card

    The American Express Velocity Platinum Card is the top of the new range of Velocity cards. While it carries a $440 annual fee it comes with a decent range of benefits.

    • Earn Rate
      • 1.25 Velocity Points per dollar on eligible spend other than government bodies in Australia
      • 0.5 Velocity Points per dollar at government bodies in Australia
      • 2.25 Velocity Points per dollar on Virgin Australia spend
    • Lounge Benefits
      • Visit the Virgin Australia lounge ahead of your domestic Virgin Australia flight
      • Two Virgin Australia Guest Lounge Passes to the Virgin Australia lounge you can give to family or friends
    • Other Benefits 
      • Earn 50 Velocity Status Credits when you spend $25,000 on the card in a membership year
      • Earn a further 50 Velocity Status Credits when you spend $50,000 on the card in a membership year
      • Enjoy one complimentary Virgin Australia domestic return economy flight per year (between selected cities)

    American Express Velocity Escape Card

    The American Express Velocity Escape Plus Card is the replacement of the previous Escape Card. It is a more modest offering, with a more modest annual fee of $95 to match. The key details of the card are as follows:

    • Earn Rate
      • 1 Velocity Points per dollar on eligible spend other than government bodies in Australia (Note that once you hit 12,000 Velocity Points in a membership year, this drops to 0.75 Velocity Points per dollar
      • 0.5 Velocity Points per dollar at government bodies in Australia
      • 1.75 Velocity Points per dollar on Virgin Australia spend
    • Other Benefits 
      • Spend $50 or more on eligible flights on your Card with Virgin Australia and receive a $50 statement credit, once per redemption period
