Last year, Velocity announced that they were introducing a new lifetime status – Forever Gold. While it does not come into effect until October, Velocity have now updated their App and Website to show how you are tracking toward the goal.
Qualifying for Forever Gold status
In order to gain Forever Gold you will need to earn total of 12,000 status credits. Of that total, at least 9,000 Status Credits will need to have been earned on Virgin Australia flights. Thee remaining 3,000 Status Credits can come from any eligible source, such as family pooling, partner airlines, and other partners such as Flybuys.
When it comes into effect in October, Velocity will be counting all of your status credits from 1 February 2013. That basically means they will be backdating the calculations 12 years.,
Viewing Your Progress
Velocity have now added the ability to view your progress to Forever Gold. This is visible in both the App and the website. You can navigate to the page on the Velocity website by clicking on My Velocity -> Status, and the unlock Forever Gold.
In my case, it is shown below. As seen, I am approaching the halfway point of achieving Forever Gold (I was focused on achieving Lifetime Gold in Qantas),
Benefits of Forever Gold
Once you have Forever Gold, you will have the benefit of Gold, regardless of how much flying you do. These perks include:
- Airport Lounge Access,
- Virgin Australia operated lounges and
- the lounges of selected international partners (which may change from time to time)
- Ability to select seats in the preferred seating zone
- Priority check-in for domestic and international flights
- Priority boarding
- Complimentary advance seat selection
- Ability to request ‘Fly Ahead’ to get to your destination on an earlier same-day domestic Virgin Australia flight
- Additional Baggage Allowance
- Guaranteed Economy Reward Seats for an annual family trip
- a 75% Velocity Points bonus on Virgin Australia flights

Velocity will be launching Forever Gold in October. At that time, eligible members will be inducted into the group. As we move forward to that time, Velocity have now rolled out an ability to see how you are tracking toward the goal.
