Qantas is continuing to expand its international network – announcing a new service from Sydney to Rome via Perth. For now, it is a seasonal service and will run between 22 June and 6 October. This takes in the peak European holiday season.
Using the 787-9 Dreamliner, it will offer the first non-stop commercial flight between Australia and Italy. Indeed, the new flight will cut three hours off the current faster travel time to Rome.
For Perth, it will be the second long-distance non-stop service, following the Melbourne-Perth-Londo n flight, launched back in 2018. While currently flying via Darwin, it is expected to return to its Perth routing later in 2022.
Italy is the largest market for us in continental Europe for people visiting family and friends from Australia and we think customers will love flying direct to one of the world’s great cities to spend time with loved ones or enjoy Italy,
After the restrictions of the past few years, it’s the ideal time to reinvigorate our international network and we’ll continue to look for new opportunities.
-Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce.
Fares for the new Sydney-Perth-Rome flights are on sale starting from $1785 return.
Qantas will operate two Points Planes (bookable until 21 December 2021) for Frequent Flyers with every seat in every cabin available to book as a reward seat on the inaugural flight to Rome on 22 June and on the first flight departing Rome on 23 June.
