Qantas Frequent Flyer and BP Rewards have announced the extension of their customer loyalty partnership. As a result Qantas Frequent Flyers will continue to be able to earn points at bp branded locations. In addition, business owners will continue to earn rewards through the partnership between Qantas Business Rewards and BP Plus.
The extension follows the recent approval by the ACCC to allow them to continue their current partnership.
In touting the success of the partnership, Qantas says that members have earned billions of points through BP fuel and in-store purchases. This has allowed members to book over 7 million rewards seats across the Qantas network.
According to Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance
Two-thirds of all Qantas Points are earned on the ground, and over the past five years, bp has become one of the most popular ways for our members to boost their points balance. Millions of reward seats have also been booked in that time, and this extension will unlock millions more dream holidays for our frequent flyers.
More sites
The new partnership comes as BP expands its network in South Australia and Western Australia. Following their acquisition of South Australia bases X Convenience, members will have an additional 49 sites at which they can earn (and use) points. The vast majority of these sites are in South Australia which will help South Australian members.
Earn on EV charging
EV charging is something of a growing sector in Australia. Certainly, demand for EV charging is just going to grow over the next few years. As such, BP Rewards and Qantas are looking to offer points while charging your EV at a bp pulse charging point. At this point, there has been no indication as to whether points will be offered on the dollar spend, or on the kWh charged.
Final Words
It is hard to believe the the partnership between Qantas Frequent Flyer and BP kicked off 5 years ago. Mind you, it was quite an eventful time just after the partnership launched in February 2020.
In that time, I have probably earned tens of thousands of points through bp. That said, I tend to be more price driven these days, unless there is a decent promotion on.
