Qantas has increased its domestic flight change and cancellation fees, with new pricing applying to bookings made from 1 July 2026. The airline has implemented a 10% fee rise, lifting the standard charge from $110 to $121.
The Changes
Qantas’ fee update applies to Economy and Premium Economy bookings, though the impact is almost entirely on Economy passengers. Premium Economy is rarely offered on domestic routes, and the change does not apply to Business Class fares.
The only domestic sectors where Premium Economy appears are the long‑haul configured flights operating between the East Coast and Perth, typically tied to international services heading to Europe. For most travellers, this fee increase will therefore affect standard Economy fares.
If you are on a red-e-deal fare (the cheapest ones):
- Change: you will be up for $121 to change the time or date of your flight. This will be in addition to any fare difference.
- Cancel: when you cancel a red-e-deal, it is converted to a credit. When you redeem this credit for a new flight, a charge of $121 will apply
Go up a notch to a flex fare, and the $121 will apply in the following cases
- Name Change: This will require a $121 fee
- Cancel: While you can convert to a credit for no charge, if you want a refund that will cost $121
For premium economy, on the handful of routes this applies to
- Change: a $121 fee will apply for changing the date or time of the flight in Premium Economy
- Name change: a $121 fee will apply
- Cancel: a $112 fee will apply
Qantas previously increased the change fees from $88 to $99 in 2017. Last year this had an increase to $110, around.
