Qantas Frequent Flyers will be able to use their points to book Hawaiian Airlines Reward seats from Thursday, June1. From that day, you’ll be able to book Rewards Seats across the Hawaiian Airlines network with Qantas Points. That network includes all four Hawaiian Islands, 15 cities in the US, and 10 international destinations.
The ability to book points on Hawaiian Airlines was flagged back in January, and comes as Hawaiian prepares to join the oneworld alliance.
Frequent Flyer Bookings
The timing of this provides some interesting early opportunities for Qantas Frequent Flyers. While Hawaiian Airlines will be priced on the Partner Award schedule, the number of points required for these awards increases on 5 August. This gives you about two months to book on the current table, before the new prices kick in.
To give you some idea of the changes, let’s look at an example. At present, you can book a Sydney-Honolulu Reward for 37,800 points in Economy, or 90,000 points in Business. If you make your booking after 5 August, it will be 43,500 points in Economy or 108,000 points in Business.
Codeshare
On top of the oneworld tie-up, Qantas and Hawaiian have entered into a bilateral codeshare arrangement. This has a few positive outcomes for Qantas Frequent Flyers. One of those is that members will be able to earn Qantas Points and Status Credits on Hawaiian Airlines operated flights. To enable this earning, you’ll need to make a booking with a QF flight number.
More points, more place
Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance, says that Hawaii is already a top destination for members.
We know Hawaii is one of the most sought-after destinations for our Frequent Flyers and the partnership with Hawaiian Airlines will be welcome news for members eyeing up their next overseas trip.
Our members will be able to use their points to connect to one or all four major Hawaiian Islands or look to build Honolulu into their itinerary as a convenient stopover en route to North America.
Final Words
Qantas has been leaning on its partners to help in increase the number of Classic Award seats makes available to members. This latest announcement somewhat continues that trend.
That said, they have made the seats available two months before a price increase is set to take effect. As such, if you have any plans to travel to Hawaii (or continental US), it will be worth taking a look before the price rise.
