Qantas offers a status extension, and other goodies

    MarkBy MarkAugust 21, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

Qantas is offering its frequent flyers holding Silver, or above, status an extension of their status for an extra year. The extension is part of an ‘apology package’ announced by Qantas on Sunday.

In addition to the status extension, the package will offer other benefits such as flight discounts, more Classic Reward availability, and more.

At present, some of the details of the offers are incomplete. Qantas says it will email members on Monday with further information about the package. Having said that, Qantas has provided some details on the offers.

    Key Details

    Status extension

Qantas will offer a 12-month status extension across tiered members. This means that members holding Silver and above will enjoy their benefits for a further year.

The extension is in addition to a series of extensions over the last two years. This has seen Qantas Frequent Flyers being able to retain their status by booking one eligible flight.

At present, Qantas has not given full details of this status extension. For example, we don’t know if it will give everyone an extension through to 2024.

    Flight discount offer

Qanats Frequent Flyers will receive a $50 off flight promotion code to redeem towards a return Qantas flight.

Qantas Frequent Flyers based in Australia and New Zealand will be offered to discount code. It is likely that this will need to be redeemed directly with Qantas. As such, you may need to make an online booking on the Qantas website, rather than through a travel agent.

    Classic Reward availability extension

Qantas will extend its previously announced commitment of up to 50 per cent more reward seat availability on Qantas International, trans-Tasman, and domestic routes.

    Lounge invitations

Qantas will be making additional lounge invitations available to members. Members will be able to use these themselves, or they can offer them to a Frequent Flyer friend, colleague, or family member.

    • Gold members will receive an invitation to visit a Qantas Domestic Business Lounge.
    • Silver members will receive an invitation to visit the Qantas Club or an international Business Lounge.

    Qantas Points

A gift of Qantas Points for Platinum and Platinum One members. We don’t know how many points Qantas will gift each member.

    Thoughts

It is an interesting package from Qantas. While the headline offer looks good, there are still some details to be filled in. We should hear more about this on Monday when Qantas writes to its frequent flyers.
