Qantas has announced the launch of its new Brisbane-Chicago and Brisbane-San Francisco flights.
The previously announced flights have now been put on sale following last weeks approval of the Qantas – American Airlines joint venture.
Kicking of on 9 February 2020, the flights between Brisbane and San Francisco will operate 3 days per week. Those three days will be Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
The non-stop Brisbane to Chicago service gets underway from 20 April 2020 and operate four times per week. These will be operating on the other four days of the week – that is Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
The new Qantas flights to the United States went on sale today. Fares to San Francisco are available from $999 return while the Chicago flights are $1,299 return.
As I write this, I was unable to find any Award seats in the new flights. It is not unusual for these to follow later, so it may be worth keeping an eye on anything that comes up.
Flight Schedules
The following table shows the flight schedules of the new flights
Flight no. | Route | Depart | Arrive | Days | Aircraft | Flight time |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
QF85 | Brisbane-Chicago | 1530 | 1640 | Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat | 787-9 | 16h20 |
QF86 | Chicago-Brisbane | 2150 | 0610+2 | Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat | 787-9 | 17h20 |

QF60 | San Francisco-Brisbane | 2215 | 0600+2 | Tue, Thu, Sun | 787-9 | 13h45 |
The flights do seem to spell the death knell for QF55/56 – the evening service from Brisbane to Los Angeles. It looks as though Qantas will be reducing the Brisbane – Los Angeles services to just one a day (QF15/16)
