Qantas has expanded its reward network through a new partnership with Philippine Airlines. Qantas Frequent Flyers can now use Qantas Points to book Classic Reward seats on all Philippine Airlines routes.
This deal opens access to 15 new destinations in the Philippines. These destinations include the world-renowned beaches of Boracay, the diving capital of Cebu, and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Palawan province. In addition, it boosts points‑redemption options to Asia, North America and the Middle East.
Qantas Loyalty CEO, Andrew Glance, says of the new partnership:
Many of our members want their points to take them further than just the major hubs. Partnering with Philippine Airlines opens up more of Asia and adds 15 destinations previously missing from our partner network.
From the world-class beaches of Boracay to the limestone lagoons of El Nido, these are destinations that feel like a true reward. Members can now build an entire island-hopping itinerary using points, connecting through Manila to some of the most remote and beautiful spots in Southeast Asia
Booking Philippine Airlines Flights Using Qantas Points
Qantas Frequent Flyers can now redeem Classic Reward seats on the full Philippine Airlines network using Qantas Points. Redemptions follow the Partner Classic Flight Reward Table, and members can book seats in Economy, Premium Economy (where available), and Business Class.
Sydney–Manila and Melbourne–Manila fall into Zone 5 for Classic Reward pricing. Philippine Airlines operates these routes with the Airbus A330. One‑way redemption rates are:
- PAL business class — 90,000 Qantas Points
- PAL premium economy — 70,800 Qantas Points
- PAL economy — 34,700 Qantas Points
Brisbane–Manila and Perth–Manila sit in Zone 4. Being shorter routes, they require fewer points. They are also operated by A321Neo aircraft that do not have Premium Economy.
- PAL business class — 73,400 Qantas Points
- PAL economy — 28,200 Qantas Points
I did some checking on the Qantas website, and while I could find economy Reward seats, Business did not seem to be available yet.
Final Words
It’s obviously great news for members travelling to the Philippines. While it complements existing Qantas and Jetstar services between Australia and Manila, it opens up a range of domestic Philippine destinations for travellers using points.
The benefits go even further for members aiming further afield. Manila is a major hub, and alongside Qantas, Jetstar and Philippine Airlines, seven other Qantas partners operate from the city. As a result, it opens up a range of options for Qantas Frequent Flyers to redeem flights to, say, the USA or Europe.
