Long-time partners, Virgin Australia and Singapore Airlines have reinstated their codeshare partnerships. Under the codeshare arrangements, Virgin Australia will place VA flight numbers on Singapore Airlines services to Asia, Africa, and Europe.
In total, Virgin Australia will codeshare on 42 destinations covering 23 countries on the Singapore Airlines network. This includes a range of destinations such as
- Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam,
- Seoul in South Korea,
- Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Paris in Europe,
- London in the United Kingdom.
In return, Singapore Airlines will continue to add its code on 64 routes, covering 31 destinations on Virgin Australia services.
Benefits to Velocity Members
For starters, it means Virgin Australia customers can search and book a range of Singapore Airlines destinations on the Virgin Australia website.
Velocity members will find that there are different earning rates when flying on the SQ or VA flight numbers. In particular, members with Velocity status will find that their status bonus applies when flying on the VA flight number. As such, Velocity Silver, Gold, and Platinum members will earn a 50%, 75% or 100% boost to the points earned on VA-codeshare flights.
In addition, the VA-coded flights will count toward the sectors required for status. On top of that, in some cases, there will be slightly more status credits earned when flying under the VA code.
Thoughts
Singapore Airlines have been a solid partner of Virgin Australia for some time. This change brings things even closer to the way they were pre-pandemic.
While the VA codes is not being applied across the Singapore Airlines network, the airlines say they are working on extending the coverage.
