Westpac to close Altitude Bonus Partner program

    MarkBy MarkMarch 25, 2017No Comments2 Mins Read

An interesting feature of the Altitude cards is the Altitude Bonus Partner program. This program offers bonus points at a range of merchants, such as hotels.

As Altitude comes in two versions, there were two different programs. For members collecting Altitude points, bonus points were provided through the Altitude Bonus Partner program. For cardholders enrolled in the Altitide Qantas program, bonus Qantas Points were provided in the Altitude QantasĀ  Bonus Partner program. The Qantas Bonus Partner program was also available to Earth cardholders.

Westpas has advised that the programs will be closing as from April 30. As a result, from May 1 there will no longer be an ability to earn bonus points through the program.

    Altitude Bonus Program

Under the bonus programs, holders of Altitude cards could gain bonus points from a range of retailers,. These included Accomodation and Entertainment providers, anc could give a boost of 1 or 2 points for each dollar spend at the merchant.

Sadly, it is all about to come to an end. The announcement of the end has been carried in recent statement being sent to cardholders. While the announcement detailed the terms and condition changes, the main message was

Bonus points earned through the Bonus Partner program and the Westpac Qantas Rewards Bonus Partner program will only be available up to and including 30 April 2017.

While losing the benefit is unfortunate, the number of merchants in the program does seem to have been dwindling recently.

Bonus Qantas Points on Qantas spend

The changes do not apply to the bonus that is available for eligible Qantas spend. Under the announced changes, this particular bonus remains intact.

As a result, Altitude Qantas (and Earth) cardholders should still expect to earn 1 bonus Qantas Point per dollar on selected Qantas products. These include passenger flights (with a QF flight number), Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining fees, where these are purchased directly from Qantas.
