KrisFlyer Announces Improved Transfer Rate to Bonvoy

It's a better deal, but still more of a backup plan than a headline redemption.

So, rewind to January 2023. KrisFlyer introduced a fresh redemption option, turning what was a one-way street with Marriott Bonvoy into a proper two-way partnership.

That meant you could finally move your KrisFlyer miles over to Bonvoy points, not just the other way around. For travelers who like mixing and matching loyalty currencies, it sounded like a pretty sweet deal at first.

But there was a catch. And it was a big catch. The transfer ratio was, frankly, terrible. If you tried sending your miles into Bonvoy, the value you got back was so weak that it consistently sat at the very bottom of the “cash-out” charts. In other words, while the flexibility was nice in theory, in practice it was somewhat less rewarding.

Now there is a bit of good news. KrisFlyer will be increasing the redemption value you get from that transfer.

    Increased Transfer Rate

Ever since it was introduced, the KrisFlyer-to-Bonvoy transfer deal has been pretty underwhelming. You’d only get 1 Marriott Bonvoy point for every 2 KrisFlyer miles you moved over. Not exactly inspiring value.

But things are finally improving. Starting 1st April 2026, the transfer rate gets a permanent 50% boost. Basically, that means that the transfer rate will change as follows:

    • Until 31 March: 2 KrisFlyer = 1 Marriott Bonvoy Point
    • From 1 April: 4 KrisFlyer Miles = 3 Marriott Bonvoy Points.

So, that 3,000 KrisFlyer Mile will now transfer as 2,250 Marriott Bonvoy Poiints. Just make sure you wait until April 1st to take advantage of this change.

On top of that, the annual transfer cap is being raised from 180,000 to 250,000 KrisFlyer miles (per calendar year).

    The Other Way?

Nothing’s changing if you’re moving points the other way. Converting from Marriott Bonvoy into KrisFlyer still sticks with the same rate: 3 Bonvoy points for every 1 KrisFlyer mile.

That setup has been around for years, and it’s staying put. So while KrisFlyer-to-Bonvoy transfers are getting a boost, the reverse direction remains untouched.

    Final Words

This isn’t a game-changing redemption option, but it does make the conversion a little less painful. To be honest, KrisFlyer miles are most valuable when you’re redeeming them for premium cabin flights or upgrades. That’s where the magic happens. Converting them into hotel points has always been a bit of a “last resort” move,

That said, one situation where I can see this being useful is if you’ve got KrisFlyer miles that are about to expire. Unlike many other programs, KrisFlyer miles have a hard expiry. They vanish three years after you earn them, no matter what. So if you’re sitting on a small batch of miles with no flights or upgrades in sight, converting them into Bonvoy points could be a way to salvage some value rather than letting them go to waste.

Another situation is where you have Marriott Bonvoy points about to expire. Here, you just need some activity. Any activity. Moving some mile from KrisFlyer might just be the ticket.
