Oaks Hotels and Resorts has joined the Global Hotels Alliance, a collection of independently operated hotels. As a result, members of the Discovery loyalty program will now be able to benefit from their memberships when staying at Oaks Hotels. This includes both the ability to earn tier nights, as well as offering the benefits that membership brings.
The addition of Oaks adds a collection of over 50 hotels across Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Qatar and the UAE to Discovery. As Discovery points out, it now is the second largest hotel loyalty program operator in Australia.
For Discovery members, it basically doubles the number of hotels in Australia to choose from. Until now, Discovery options have largely been the Rydges and QT Hotels operated by the Event Hotels group. On top of that, are also a small number of Pan Pacific and Park Royal hotels across Australia.
Oaks Hotels and Resorts
With the addition of Oaks, Discovery members now have access to around 100 hotels across Australia. It is of most benefit to members on the east coast. The chain is quite concentrated on the east coast of Australia, with about half of their hotels being in Queensland.
Originally established in Australia in the early 1990’s, it has grown to be a fairly sizeable operation. In 2011, it was acquired by the Thailand based Minor Hotels group.
Minor has a number of hotel brands including Anantara, AVANI, Elewana Collection and Tivoli. Discovery members may already know these names, as they have been members of GHA program for several years. The addition of the Oaks hotels means that all Minor Hotels brands are members of GHA.
