    The Qantas American Express Premium card

    American Express is offering 30,000 bonus Qantas Points for new Card Members of the Qantas Premium Card. To be in line for the points, you will need to sign up and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first three months of approval.

    The basic earning rate on the card is 1 Qantas Point per dollar on most spend. There is a reduced on government spend, with the rate being 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar.

    In addition to the points earning, the card offers members a range of Qantas benefits. Firstly, members receive a boosted earn rate of 2 Qantas Points per dollar on selected Qantas spend. Secondly, cardholders can receive 2 Qantas Club invitations each Card Member year. Finally, the card offers complimentary Qantas Wine Premium Membership – saving $99.

    Qantas American Express Premium Card

    The Qantas American Express Premium card sits in the middle of the American Express Qantas branded cards. It fits between the entry level Qantas American Express Discovery Card, and the high end Qantas American Express Ultimate Card.

    With an annual fee of $249, the card comes with a range of useful inclusions. These include 2 Qantas Club invitations each cardholder year, complimentary Qantas Wine Premium Membership, and a range of insurance protections.

    Points Earning

    The card offers 1 Qantas Points per on most spend except for Government charges, where it earns 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar. It also offers 2 Qantas Points per dollar on selected Qantas spend.

    Two Qantas Club invitations each cardholder year

    The Premium Card offers two Qantas Club invitations each year. When flying domestically, you can use these at any domestic Qantas Club in Australia. If you are travelling internationally, you can use these to access the Qantas Business lounges. There are some exclusions, such as the shared One World lounge in Los Angeles, so check the eligibility rules for the pass before you use it.

    The invitations are issued electronically after you make your first Qantas spend on the card. Once issued, they are found online in the Complimentary Invitations page.

    Complimentary Qantas Wine Premium membership

    Cardholders are offered a premium membership to Qantas Wine. As a Premium Member of the wine and food portal you will receive a boosted earn rate 3 Qantas Points per dollar. In addition, Qantas Wine offers premium members free delivery.

    Of course, if you pay for your Qantas Wine purchases with your Qantas American Express Premium card, you will get an extra 1 Point per dollar. All up, you could get a total of 4 Qantas Points per dollar – three from Qantas Wine, and 1 from American Express.

    Insurance and Protections

    The card is bundled with a range of insurance and other protections. These include domestic and international travel cover, refund and purchase protection.

    You will need to read the terms and the PDS for these products to see if the products are suitable for you.

    Bonus points eligibility

    American Express have set specific requirements in order to receive the sign on bonus points. The bonus points are available to new cardmembers that

    • apply for a card,
    • are approved,
    • and meet the minimum spend criteria. For this card, this requires a spend of $3,000  on eligible purchases within three months of being approved.

    A new cardmember is one that does not currently hold an American Express issued card (or have held one in the 18 months prior to your application).

    Bank issued American Express cards do not affect eligibility. For example, if have only held an American Express card issued by ANZ, CommBank, NAB or Westpac, then you are still eligible for the offer.

    At $249 per year, the card is the mid-range offering from American Express.

    The Qantas lounge invitations and Qantas Wine Premium Membership will be useful offers for the right people.
