The Velocity Frequent Flyer Program is a loyalty program offered by Virgin Australia. As with many programs of its type, it is designed to reward frequent flyers and provide exclusive perks to its members.
However, Velocity goes the extra mile when it comes to family benefits. These ‘family benefits’ are baked into the program, and can unlock family perks.
Make sure everyone joins
To join the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program, you can sign up for free on the Virgin Australia website. If you are a family, each member of the family has to sign up for their own account.
Once registered, they can start earning Velocity Points and enjoying the many benefits the program has to offer. While this allows each member of the family to earn points, it is worth noting that Velocity offers a number of family friendly benefits.
Velocity Family Benefits
Family Pooling
Velocity Frequent Flyer allows families to pool their points together, making it easier to earn and redeem rewards. By linking family members’ accounts, they can combine their points and work towards a shared goal.
It can also go beyond points. When you are pooling into a single account, you can elect to pool Status Credits, as well as points.
In order to set up family pooling, everyone must live at the same address. You can set up a pool with up to six people, with a maximum of two adults and four children.
Family Transfer
As the name suggests, this feature allows you to transfer points between family accounts. You can do this on an ad-hoc basis up to 4 times per year.
All you have to do is login to your account, select “Points Transfer – Family”, fill out their details, and tick the terms and conditions boxes.
Parental Pause
Expecting? New Parent? You may see your ability to travel a bit curtailed. If you hold Velocity Silver, Gold or Platinum membership, you can take advantage of Velocity Frequent Flyer’s Parental Pause.
Velocity’s Parental Pause enables you to put your status on pause for six months at your existing membership level. After the six months, your membership will be resumed at the same level for a further 12 months.
During the pause, you will still be able to earn and redeem Velocity Points and Status Credits during the pause period.
You can request a membership pause by calling the Membership Centre. You will need to provide documentation for the child. For example, depending on the exact circumstances you could need one of the following:
- A doctor’s certificate
- A birth certificate
- An adoption or foster parent registration certificate
Family Benefits for Gold and Platinum Velocity members
If you have Gold or Platinum status, you can take advantage of some other family benefits. These include guaranteed Economy reward seats and family-friendly lounge access.
Guaranteed Economy Rewards Seats
This guarantee allows you guaranteed economy rewards seats to any destination in Australia for Gold or Platinum members. Platinum members also have the opportunity to claim a guaranteed reward seat to international destinations.
This is a great option if you and your family want to travel at a peak time. For example, you can use this benefit at Easter, Christmas, or school holidays.
Family-friendly lounge access
Gold and Platinum members get the opportunity to invite additional guests into the lounge. In the case of Gold Velocity members this is one additional guest. Platinum members get to invite up to three additional guests into a Virgin Australia lounge.
