Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways have announced a new strategic partnership. The new partnership will see the two airlines codeshare on each other’s services, and provide reciprocal frequent flyer benefits. Velocity has outlined the basic benefits of the partnership. Qantas has rolled out a new ‘Points Plane’ promotion and is taking the idea to a whole new level. This time it is not one plane, but a total of 1,700 flights on 33 routes across the month of August. Qantas has announced an orders for Airbus aircraft that it reshape its international and domestic fleet over the next decade. In addition to the initial order, Qantas has also announced purchase rights to additional aircraft. The headline announcement was an order for 12 Airbus A350 aircraft. Members of Velocity are now able to use their points to redeem Points for Business Award seats on Singapore Airlines. The ability to redeem Business Awards, in addition to Economy, became available on 29 March. At present, award seats are available across the network are available with the exception of service to China, including Hong Kong. Velocity is still working with Singapore Airlines to re-introduce in other cabins. In addition, Velocity and Singapore Airlines are working towards resuming the ability to transfer points between the two programs. Qantas has updated the Business Rewards program, sweetening the offers, and making it easier to move to higher tiers within the program. First up, every time a member flies for work with a Qantas Reward Program partner, they will receive an additional 250 Qantas Points for each flight.
