New hotels coming to Perth in the near future

    MarkBy MarkAugust 19, 2017No Comments3 Mins Read

Anyone that tried to find accommodation in Perth during the mining boom will know how expensive it could be. Perth was quite short on options, with only small projects coming on stream to fill the gap.

Of course, where prices are sky high, there are opportunities. A number of projects were announced, and while a couple of of these new hotels have opened, several are still under developement.

Having spent the last few weeks Perth, I thought I’d take a look at where some of these developments are at. What is apparent, is that there are a lot of rooms coming on stream over the next few years. This could provide for some quite keen pricing for hotel rooms around Perth. This is quite a turnaround from where it was a few years ago.

    New Hotels in Perth

The following six hotels are currently under developement. I have ordered them in the order that I expect that they will open their doors.

    Intercontinental Perth City Centre

The next hotel to be throwing its doors open will be the Intercontinental Perth City Centre. In its immediate previous life, the building was flagged as a Rydges, although it closed two years ago. In that time, it has been transformed into an Intercontinental, and the IHG Booking engine has it opening in mid – October.

    Westin Perth

The Westin Perth is currently slated to be opening on April 27, 2018. This hotel is located on the corner of Murray St and Irwin St. For those that know Perth, this is the site of the old Fire Station and Perth Chest Clinic.

    DoubleTree NorthBridge

While the previous two hotels were nearing completion, and had announced opening dates, we move along to hotels that still have a lot of work to do. As a result, they don’t have any announced opening dates, so they are at least a year away or more.

The fiirst of these is the DoubleTree by Hilton in Northbridge, This is one of three DoubleTree hotels coming to WA. Two will be in Perth, while the third wil be in Fremantle.

As the following photograph shows, the hotel is still under construction. I would expect a 2018 opening for this hotel.

    DoubleTree Northbridge

    QT Perth

When the Rydges closed its doors, to make way for the Intercontinental, it left Event Hotels with little presence in Perth.  There was one Rydges in Fremanle and one in Kalgoorlie, but nothing in Perth.

To fill the gap, Event Hotels are in the process of building a QT Hotel in Perth. Located in Hay Street, it is still very much under construction. The opening date is unclear, however, 2018 has been suggested. I would think this is possible, but perhaps later in the year.

    QT Perth

    Ritz Carlton and DoubleTree WaterFront

There’s a bit less to see with these two at the moment. While there appears to be some activity going on, they are only a little further on from a hole in the ground stage. I would think it is unlikely we will see either of these two open next year.

So, there you have it, a variety of upcoming hotels in Perth, I hope to be visiting each one shortly after they open, and will provide reviews here. In the meantime,
