Velocity offers 15% off selected Virgin Australia Economy reward seats

0

Velocity and Virgin Australia are offering a discount of 15% of the normal points required for selected economy reward seats. Seats are available across Australia, with the number of points required starting at just 5,200 Velocity Points.

The offer is available until November 7, and you can travel between now and 30 June 2024. The main limitation is that the sale only applied to ‘Tier 1’ fares – which are the cheapest of the three pricing tiers.

In addition, Virgin Australia is releasing 600,000 economy reward seats on Virgin Australia-operated domestic and international routes. The 600,000 seats seem to be part of a broader release than the Tier 1 discount, so you might see additional Rewards seats on International flights, or Tier 2 and Tier 3 Rewards.

Key Details

  • Offer: 15% discount on eligible Virgin Australia domestic flights (restricted to Tier 1 Rewards)
  • Booking Dates: Book between 31 October and 7 November 2023
  • Travel Dates: You will need to fly by 30 June 2024.

There are a couple of limitation to be aware of. The first is that the discount only applies to Tier 1 Rewards. This means that it only applied to the cheapest tier of Velocity Rewards. In addition, as with many promotions, flights to Christmas Island and Cocos Islands are not eligible.

Aside from that, it is worth noting that the discount only applies to the Points component of the redemption. The cash portion (taxes, fees and surcharges) is not discounted.

The Discounts

As noted, the discount only applies to Tier 1 Rewards on domestic flights. This means that for the next week, you can redeem Tier 1 Rewards based on the following table:

Tier 1 (usual) Tier 1 (discounted)
1-600 miles  (Zone 1) 6,200 pts 5,200 pts
601-1,200 miles (Zone 2) 9,400 pts 7,900 pts
1,201-2,400 miles (Zone 3) 14,100 pts 11,900 pts
2,401-3,600 miles (Zone 4) 17,600 pts 14,900 pts
3,601-4,800 miles (Zone 5) 21,000 pts 17,800 pts

The redemption rate for Tier 2 and Tier 3 Rewards are not being reduced under this offer.
